Istrana, October 24th, 2018 – The Fiaticorti International Short Film Festival closes the 19th edition with the awarding ceremony on Friday, October 26th inside the Cinema Theater of the military airport of Istrana, Treviso, which opens its doors to the citizens and lives the event together with the city in mutual collaboration.
The 23 international short films have been selected by the Festival organizers and as stated by the Artistic Director Bartolo Ayroldi Sagarriga they "present a critical picture of the family, in continuation with what we saw at the 2018 edition. But unlike last year, where there was mostly an absence of the parental figure, this year the parent is more authoritarian and repressive, especially in the European works, and this sometimes leads to rebellion, to emotional contrast and to the attempt to recover a lost serenity. This vision of the relationship "parent-child" is the narrative transposition of the difficult relationship between the people and the institutions whose distance is generating, in Europe, phenomena of remoteness and protest".
The jury will take care of the awarding of the 4 prizes: best actor or actress, best short film, best short film of the comic section and best short film of the special section dedicated to works by filmmakers living in Veneto or short films that relate to Veneto because of their themes or settings (FiatiVeneti). In addition, there will be also a prize by the popular jury.
The jury of the 19^ edition is composed by Alessandro Cinquegrani, historic juror of Fiaticorti, the philosopher Umberto Curi and the director Marco Segato.
The 23 finalists come from Moldova, Brazil, Australia, Belgium, France, Italy, Iran, the Netherlands, Spain and they enrich the list of selected films that increases to 500 short films in 19 editions of the Festival. An important cultural heritage that is of enormous value for the Municipality of Istrana, which has been organizing the Festival for nineteen editions.
Born in 2000 Fiaticorti confirms itself as the longest-running film festival in the province of Treviso and one of the first national festivals dedicated to short films, in a panorama of about 200 events dedicated to shorts taking place in Italy. The Festival is organized and supported by the Municipality of Istrana (TV) in collaboration with the local Pro Loco, Progetto Giovani of Istrana and the Air Force 51°stormo, it has the patronage of the Veneto Region and the Province of Treviso.
Fiaticorti stands out for its identity that recalls the film clubs from the Seventies, for the attention it gives to the territory in which it was born - the Veneto - dedicating to it a special section of the festival and for the strong internationalization it has developed in recent years.
During the four evenings held during the month of October, all the short films in competition were screened, giving space also to the analysis and discussion of the films together with the audience, an aspect that the Festival Fiaticorti has always considered fundamental to convey to the audience the contents and the meanings of each short film.
Admission is free but a registration is required since the event takes place inside a military area.
